The 3 Penny Opera 1931
Watching this disappointing film, shortly after seeing a somewhat disappointing stage production put on by a Chicago area musical theater company which is usually excellent, I've come to the conclusion that, for whatever reason, Threepenny is a property that's hard to do right. That the only NYC production I've seen, many years ago off-off Broadway, was also pretty meh, and that I'm hard-pressed to remember any critically acclaimed revivals in recent decades, confirms this impression.
