I really can’t believe that this movie is getting such good reviews, considering that movie musicals are usually judged more harshly by the general public who doesn’t love MT.
Ok first, the good:
- the chemistry and performances among all the performers is great
- I laughed many times at Ariana, especially her “I love air” hair toss
- THEY DIDNT WRITE ANY NEW SONGS
- the large dance numbers showed how talented the dancers and background actors are

Fassbender is characteristically magnetic, and there's plenty of sharp Sorkin dialogue, but even those two things can't save this expository avalanche. Sorkin writes and tells us a lot about Jobs, but he never becomes a real person.
The film uses three parallel sequences, which is creative and does allow for some glimpses of change/continuity to tell us about characters and situations. However, the extremely thin threads which connect these scenes make it very hard for performances in the final act…

Sam Rockwell is fantastic, and McDormand is well cast, but oh this script. Unfocused, tonally inconsistent, and frustrating as hell.
