I read the almost 500 page book in one day. It was captivating. The characters felt real. I cared about them. I felt their pain, despite never having been through a fraction of the suffering they experienced. I cheered for Lina and Andrius. Kostas's death hurt. Elena's was the worst. I empathized with Kretsky.
But this movie took the fundamental principles of each character, shoved them in a blender, pulsed it until it was a pulp, then tried to reconstruct…
