Fantastic Planet 1973
Incredibly weird (in a good way, mostly) and a bit dry, but worth the watch just for the bizarre scenery and creative alien designs.

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre 1974
Finally saw this classic for the first time, and it lived up to the praise for me. The hopeless, almost apocalyptic atmosphere is set up very well and the set design is fantastic. It can feel a bit tropey to someone already familiar with slashers, but it's not really a problem considering the fact that it was one of the movies that originated a lot of the tropes. Plus I gotta say, despite him being annoying I was on Franklin's side.

Orphan 2009
I initially gave this a low rating because something about the messaging bothered me in a way I couldn't really articulate. Something about a "gifted" coded adopted immigrant child secretly being an evil killer didn't sit right.
Having thought back about it, I realized it deserved higher just for being a well crafted film. Also, if I think about a movie this much after I watch it, it at least means I got into enough for it to stick.
