I try to go into movies somewhat blind these days. I like the surprises, especially movies based on true stories, or movies with a twist. One could argue Sing Sing falls into both categories, but the twist isn’t revealed until the credits roll and you keep seeing two words repeated: “as Himself”.

Coralie Fargeat should be a household name after her sophomore film. Clearly drawing inspiration from body-horror prestige David Cronenberg, I feel like there’s also an imprint of Aronofsky’s Requiem for a Dream stylistically, and even thematically with vanity and fame as the drug of choice.

Is this the best version of Batman ever? Probably not, but between the muscle car batmobile and emo-centric vibe and music throughout, this is certainly MY Batman. There's been a lot of Batmen I've loved, including Batfleck (who just couldn't beat the bad writing that was stacked against him), but none that I've felt more connected to on a personal level.
