The Brutalist 2024
Great acting/character development, compelling cinematography, powerful score, gut-wrenching story… but had a lot of big misses for me. For a film named after an architectural movement, I was disappointed this film waited until the epilogue to tell (when, really, I wish they had SHOWN) anything about Brutalism, its origins, its impact. Disappointed too that this film largely ignored the historical context of modernism in the US, the Bauhaus, etc. And I get this was low budget and couldn’t be shot…
