Emilia Pérez is a fascinating mess. I’ve never gone into a film having heard so many differing opinions. I was open minded, but that didn’t change the fact that this film was just plain bad. It throws a bunch of societal and political topics at the wall, but instead of exploring them in any meaningful way, it just skims the surface in the weirdest ways possible. And don’t even get me started on those awkward musical numbers. The result is a movie that thinks it has something to say but never actually says anything.

Woke up still thinking about this film. It seems like it’s just about two sexed up teenagers but really it’s so much more. Yes sexuality is a major theme but it also dives into class, culture, friendship, morality, and even politics. But there is still this light and youthful tone to the film that preserves Tenoch and Julios adolescence throughout. That is until we see them in the final scene where they’ve grown up and grown apart and we can feel that so much has changed between them. Wow!!! I shed a tear!!!
