There's always gonna be context missing to this movie for me because I wasn't there to feel the impact of its release but it's probably a more favorable and genuine interpretation to think of this as an art-bleeding-into-life deal than a self-contained movie with a coherent plot (through that lens it's pretty uninteresting but I guess that's the point, too well made and it wouldn't be believable). On that front it's not bad but even so I feel like the…

    Sonic the Hedgehog 3

    ★★

The first half hour of this movie was unbearable, felt like I was watching a youtube kids video with a multimillion dollar budget. Jim Carrey's fun in both roles, Shadow isn't bad and Sonic + Co got easier to tolerate over time but damn do they add absolutely nothing to the movie aside from cool powers (I haven't seen the first two movies and if it's just gonna be the Sonic and uncanny role model white guy show I do not plan to)

For how funny some of the freeze frames of this movie are (and how much potential an animated Animal Farm had) I was hoping this would be a lot less lame than it was

  • The Lobster

    The Lobster

    ★★★

A cool satire of how we try to find relationships/partners and the lengths we'll go to justify them. David makes some absolutely insane decisions for the sake of finding a companion to the point that he hardly seems like a standalone character and more a vessel for some perceived traits of morality in romance. The hotel part felt a little more suited for this kind of film as opposed to the part after that dragged by comparison, but I still enjoyed the film a good bit (when I wasn't slightly cringing or grossed out)
