With all the staples of a typical Coen Brother’s picture; some kind of stolen or illegal money, greed being the character’s downfall, a wacky ensemble cast, a strong setting (typically the South), and that unusual dark comedy; and yet something was missing. Possibly it’s the fact they were hired on after their long time collaborator Barry Sonnenfeld dropped out, and so the heart wasn’t quite in it. The jokes are there, the violence is there, the set up is there,…

I’m not sure this has over 2 hours worth of story, and yet I was always engaged. Most thematic elements of this film are clear from the jump and in your face, but an element I personally wish was explored more is the duality of the lead character. Elisabeth and Sue never feel like the same person, even though the film and the mysterious caller insists she is. A moment of Elisabeth reflecting on Sue being her in a forgotten lifetime and almost growing as a character from that could’ve added to this world. But it never seems to be the case.

Succession before Succession. Beautiful Acting. Terrible Humor. Disgusting and Yet I Snickered At the Absurdity. The Handheld 90’s Camcorder Never Once Bothered Me and Actually Engaged Me More.  Dogme 95 was a Revolutionary Moment. I’m excited to See More From Vinterberg Which May Diminish The Ideas of Dogme 95, But I Don’t Care.

I am in awe of this movie. I loved the realness and brutality that this movie is filled with from the very first scene all the way to the last moments. The style was palpable, but not over bearing. Tyrin Turner is a fantastic lead and I loved the way he interacted with the rest of the cast. Jada Pinkett and Larenz Tate are also great stand outs. A slice of life of Teens in this world.
