Fun watch but both too bleak and too cartoonish for me (what’s with that accent?). Mickey’s life as an expendable was more interesting to me than all of the other politics and drama. Felt like the end of the movie kinda dragged. I also have a peeve with stories in which I have to watch a villain manipulate, torture, kill, and gaslight people for two hours only to meet a quick and anticlimactic (and somewhat implausible) end. That said, Mark Ruffalo and Toni Collette were great in their very over-the-top roles. Not the most satisfying watch. Closer to Snowpiercer than Parasite in terms of tone.

Beau Is Afraid 2023
An overly-lengthy, self-indulgent romp through the darkly absurd. Once again, Ari Aster delights in being as heartlessly cruel to his movie’s characters as possible. And when every element is dialed up to maximum absurdity, I fail to care? This one’s a big shrug from me.

The Color of Pomegranates 1969
A beautiful series of moving tableaus and flowery poetry that was definitely a lot of people’s tumblr aesthetic in the 2010s.
