I think Grace needed a lot more backstory, but this holds up as a fun, well-paced movie, and she's obviously great as the final girl.

Unlike the "eat the rich" movies of 2022, this film actually rests on a substantive critique of capitalism, which is that "competition" is empty when the "cards" are stacked against you, class is all a matter of the genetic "lottery," and that "playing by the rules" doesn't mean shit. Is it obvious? Yes. Does it have fun though? Yes. And it underscores the importance of violent resistance! If rich purple hurt you, hurt them back!

I wanted to like it more but it's just so unsure of itself and its ethos. It tries to have an ethical center but that gets lost in the urgent need for plot twists. Also, academics I've talked to seem oddly invested on this one? Like as a feminist text? Am I missing something??

Stanley Tucci saying "I'd be the Richard Nixon of popes" really tells you who this film thinks its audience is.

Does this film imply two throwaway characters are the parents of David Koresh?
