  viewing this as an allegory for capitalism in that we view ourselves as only worthwhile if we can be productive.

  elisabeth's body is her vessel for labor, it’s her value. when her ability to work is stripped from her, she subjects her body to exploitation. she, her “ideal” body can work, produce, and wants to keep things that way. that’s the only way she is of value to society. she has no friends, no family, no partner, no hobbies outside…
