    I had well thought out ideas about what this movie attempts to explore despite the weird pop culture references. All undone by the last tenish minutes of the film. On the verge of brilliance but thinking far too hard. I did have fun though.

    Sonic doesn’t really have an origin story so I guess they just went with ol reliable - mother figure dies within the first few minutes trope. This is a solid origin story that lays a great foundation of Sonic’s desire for camaraderie and connection and how the former conflicts with idolatry within him.     Hard to tell the worst part about this: the absurdly forced conflict, the negative chemistry between the leads, the dastardly editing, the generally horrendous acting, the utter unfunniness, or the COMPLETE unsexiness. Not a single moment of genuineness. This is a very bad film. I’ve seen queer films with a budget of a single vibe and a dream have much more to offer in literally all aspects compared to this. But I guess because they’re the beau ideal of gays they get some slack?
