Someone leaving the theater said « it’s one of the greats but we can’t understand it » and that made me lol. We can’t understand. But you know, it is a man’s depiction of the very numinous and fraught experience of adolescent girls’ initiation into womanhood and so if that amounts to something enigmatic and sensational at best (the score adds so much) and a little confused and campy at worst, I’ll take it.
