Really dug this. Watched on New Year's Eve, which is the perfect night to watch it. Shot with cheap digital cameras, so it has a bit of a ramshackle quality, but shooting this way on the fly allowed for wonderful footage of downtown Los Angeles, especially the facades of the old theaters. Re-watching the film did make me a bit nostalgic for the Nineties, or maybe just nostalgic for my youth. Filmmaker Alex Sichel was a veteran of the Riot Grrrl scene, and she made a Riot…

I have a relatively low tolerance for noise, so I would have great difficulty coping with having a highway in my front yard. In other words, I would not stick around. Isabelle Huppert's character in HOME also has a low tolerance for noise, but she insists on sticking around when a dormant highway comes to life right next to her family's house. She is stuck and therefore her family is stuck; the rest of the family is willing to move,…
