Faustus Bidgood portrays the last days in the office of the titular bureaucrat who ends up becoming the first leader of the People's Republic of Newfoundland. Faustus is a fascinating character to say the least and the film is imaginative enough to do justice to him. Formally it is very much like early Godard.

Tropical Malady 2004
Tropical Malady, from the Thai director Apichatpong Weerasethakul, is a movie that can really consume you from the inside, like a disease or a fever dream. It makes you aware of your senses, your sense of being, and your thoughts and feelings. There are two acts and they serve as both contrasts and parallels. It's a film from another universe.

What Time Is It There? 2001
Like Kaurismaki, Tsai is a director you will either immediately appreciate or won't get at all even after repeat viewings. He also has a unique style and aesthetic, and he also keeps returning to the same characters and themes. Watching this again after several years was a great experience.
