Walkabout 1971
A montage at the beginning demonstrates the relationship between capitalism and Australia's western-colonized nature. And so Roeg steps in and releases two children, who are supposed to be eaten away by capitalism, into nature so that they can bring the relationship back into balance.
This does not succeed, man is too alienated from the tradition of nature, too moved by opposition. Many spaces unfold that seem mythological and spark new thought processes, but in the end man resists the alternative and loses himself in the dungeon intended for him, with no chance of escape.

The Straight Story 1999
It's amazing how Lynch's most straightforward movie can be his most experimental. He generates a story about life, about family, about redemption, about the finality of one's own individuality. Badalamenti's classical sounds at the beginning change impressively to the plucking of the banjo, which perfectly summarizes Straight's adventure journey.
A heartwarming story about the American Midwest, focusing on the people exploited by capitalism who have not given their hearts away. It's fascinating but simple, conservative but never overly romanticized. Lynch shows the simplicity of life, but in his own way.
