Tampopo's heartwarming main plot constantly getting de-railed by tangential, loosely food-related (sexual) dream sequences farcically paired with Mahler makes this film what it is: a hilarious rollercoaster.
But it's also a story which explores human and animalistic themes. And ramen.
I haven't been this blissfully confused in a long time and I'm so here for it.

was interesting to see how they dealt with filming the forward/backward idea, which still needed a huge suspension of disbelief.
"connect-the-dots" style and the plot flying around the world serves as a distraction from the lack of substance.
the characters were not interesting at all.
