Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves 2023
This movie just makes me happy. I've been handing out 5 stars like candy recently but I can't give it anything else. I'm actually not much of a tabletop guy in real life but this really understands the appeal of improvising and problem solving with a group of friends. The film is classic found family stuff but I think it really works. The whole cast is great but Sophia Lillis and Daisy Head really stood out to me this time.…

Caché 2005
Cinema as voyeurism, guilt-laden paranoia, the horror of being completely seen and exposed, and the fractures our lies can cause. It works as an engaging thriller but Haneke uses it to explore racism, class dynamics, and what we and our countries would most like to forget. Great performances, great camerawork.
Closer to 4.5 than 3.5

A Fish Called Wanda 1988
It starts a bit slow, but it builds and builds until every scene is a perfect payoff of what came before. Bulletproof screenplay, and Kline and Curtis have never been better than this.

Captain America: Brave New World 2025
I think there was maybe a movie in here somewhere, but it got completely mangled along the way. I did like Harrison Ford in this, and he's weirdly the only character who has a full arc. It feels like such a watered down version of Falcon and the Winter Soldier, which is a 6/10 show but was at least about something. I can't believe this is the movie they used to bring back in The Incredible Hulk and Eternals.

Love Lies Bleeding 2024
A true pulp thriller, sex and violence will always be engrossing on the big screen. A real standout here, like in Saint Maud, is the sound design - lots of straining muscles and squelching body parts. Everyone in the cast is good but Ed Harris and his wig seem to have the most fun. Not sure I love the ending (and not just because of the surreal part) but it's fun in an off-the-rails way.

The Last of the Line 1914
Scorsese joined Letterboxd today and became the most followed account on the site in under 12 hours. It may never be updated again (although I hope we get a few more lists out of him, or even some thoughts on a new release). Still, the real benefit of Scorsese engaging with how the younger generations interact with film is that forgotten films like this get the exposure they would likely never have received from anywhere else. The number of logs…
