A great character study and set-up. Blanchett not being recognized by the Academy is blasphemy. New elements on every watch. Oh, and it’s the realest non-biopic ever produced!

    The Substance

    ★★★½

While I think The Substance is a good film, I don't think it's a great one. The story is super original, but it doesn't zag from expectations all the way to the end. And even though the movie establishes itself outside the real world right from the start, the finale takes a turn that didn't really impress me. Demi Moore is just what I think of The Substance : good, but not Oscar-worthy.

Glad a horror pic got Oscar love!

Let Denis achieve something equivalent with Messiah and Dune will be among the best trilogies ever!

The atrocities of a Nazi family make you ponder your own life, exploits, and omissions. Days after seeing it for the first time, my biggest takeaway is how we, as humans, can turn a blind eye to our surroundings, even when something is happening right next door. Under Glazer's exceptional direction, the film portrays an extreme case of that reality.…
