Deep Cover 1992
I tried to finish this twice and couldn’t get through it. The writing is atrocious and filled with cop movie cliches. Speaking of, this movie is copaganda, there’s a “crackbaby” monologue that is extremely cringe (first time I stopped watching). The whole movie feels wildly out of touch and built on assumptions. With the exception of Fishburne and Goldblum every actor is chewing scenery, and even they can only do so much with what they’re given.

Interstellar 2014
McConaughey’s performance here brings and intimacy and emotional core to a grandiose and tragic story of a desperate space mission. This Hans Zimmer’s best score. The movie has the best and worst of Nolan’s direction: overly expository and sappy scenes balanced by practical effects, sets, and a realistic tone and style. If you’re a human being with a heart it’s impossible not to feel something during this movie but the ending is overly saccharine. I think if this movie had ended on a bleak and sad note it could have been one of the greatest sci-fi movies of all time. It’s still pretty good though.
