Memories of Murder 2003
excellent
still trying to piece together the layers of commentary, but i think this and 박하사탕 (peppermint candy) share a lot of themes, most notably that of abusive power in the age of korean military dictatorship. 송강호 is brilliant as always, but deuteragonist 김상경 really shines, particularly in his fall from grace. pacing is managed to perfection, and all of your guesses about how the plot might go continually are upended.

technically excellent, acting is class
feel like this is not mentioned very often among the great films of the 2010s despite sweeping the oscars its year, i’ll have to revisit this one to properly assess it i think
