About 15 minutes into The Abyss, I learned that James Cameron was going through a divorce throughout the film’s production. This information irreparably shifted my perspective on the movie. Bud’s relationship with his ex-wife feels like a personal attack, almost like hate-mail to his soon-to-be former spouse, with a predictable (but also not) turn toward the end.

If the film’s premise even slightly piques your interest, I highly recommend watching it. James Cameron, for all his ego, is an exceptional…

second watch, and it hit even harder than the first. this is just designed to allow the viewer to relate, but not fully where you feel self conscious for being another worst person in the world. you watch this naturally flawed (also naturally gorgeous) woman navigate through life, often with life-defining all-nighters. i didn't cry, i wept, for 20 minutes straight.

between the perfect choice of music, lighting and the sweeping shots of the european city, you'll forget you're even reading subtitles.

i need to COME OUT, once and for all.

i can not stand w*s anders*n movies. i honestly fucking feel like i’m punishing myself each time i try to watch one. the only film i’ve been able to sit through was Isle of Dogs.

the rest i tried multiple times to make it through, this one i got at least 60% through so i’m checking it off.

beautifully framed, sure. but the plots are so absent and the “comedy” just does not resonate with me.

ok i feel much better now.
