super unpopular opinion apparently but i actually liked this one. i went in knowing it was fully a musical and that it was going to be boring at parts but i like it as a character study rather than a plot driven sequel to the first one.
this whole movie is arthur fleck battling in his mind with the newfound love he’s getting for being the joker vs the neverending suffering he continued to go through as arthur.

Animations dated and it has some awfully used tropes (“that one’s for almost killing me… and that one’s for saving me”)
story’s good though and i know that the sequels do it justice. hiccup and toothless’s trust arc is good and i feel like the progression of hiccups nervous fuckup to confident leader was very organic. musics good too.
3 1/2 is generous by half a star i think, but im giving it benefit of the doubt for being a good movie for its time
i’m not a fan of horror because i feel like it’s very easy to cross the line into cheesy and unwatchable, but this movie had my attention the whole way through. and i normally fall asleep every time im in a theater.
The movies smaller details are what sets it apart. the aspect ratio changes were really cool. it’s scary without resorting to jump scares. a very eerie uneasy feeling the entire movie.
nic cage is once again at peak acting. you can’t even tell it’s him. having both this and dream scenario come out within the same year is insane.
this was a really good one actually. i normally don’t care for murder mystery’s but the execution was done very well
