    The Penguin

    ★★★★★

While The Penguin starts off as the type of show we expect it to be, giving layers to Oz Cobb that helps humanize and understand him in a way the film that preceded this simply couldn't, it slowly reveals itself to be something much more damning, impactful and straight up tragic as we see the true beginnings of who will become one of Gotham City's most notoriously monstrous and despicable figures in his most dominant fashion to date. Yet in…

It’s not often you watch an adaptation of a musical you’ve been furiously anticipating to happen for years and for it to deliver on your every possible expectation. It’s even less rare that a film that has taken as long to develop as this one has resulted in benefitting the film to become the best version of itself. So it brings me great joy to report that Wicked is one of those rare exceptions that fits into both of these…

Omaha is an immensely powerful watch about how much grief can consume us despite how often we try to distract ourselves through life’s simple pleasures. John Magaro gives an utterly heartbreaking yet subtle performance that of a father who is struggling to balance his love for his children with his constant sense of pain he is desperately trying to repress and hide from his children. It’s a very restrained performance until it suddenly isn’t anymore in some of his absolute…

    Lawrence of Arabia

    ★★★★★

You would think after all the endless praise and constant influence this film has had on cinema today that I would go into Lawrence of Arabia with high expectations that were impossible to meet. Yet, still I found myself absolutely blown away by how monumental of an achievement it really is. Not only does this film have some of the most staggeringly beautiful and awe-inspiring visuals ever put to screen as well as a euphoric score that helps enhance the…

    Parental Leave

Regardless of how little I’ll remember this film overall, the significance of why I watched it is something that will always stick with me and I feel is far more important overall. For this reason alone I’m choosing to do something I normally don’t and leave this film without a rating. We all lost one of the most passionate and genuine users in this community. Eli had a real future as a filmmaker and it’s incredibly tragic that he’s no longer with us. We’ll all miss him dearly. R.I.P indeed
