solid coming of age tale with brilliant references to growing up online

several moments where we feel chris’ sting of rejection so brutally. on the other hand his behavior isn’t given sufficient context. could have gone way deeper into the pressures associated with identity, social performance, and culture to make chris’ indignation feel more motivated

given the clear influence, it’s hard not to compare to mid90s — a film with a more authentic setting and more complex relationships.

    impressive and enjoyable!

    What do I even say?

Noe finds horror in truth — genuine horror, the kind of dread that makes it difficult to keep watching. It is such a treasure to see an identical reflection of a man’s mind on screen, a tradition that’s been his calling card, through mania and euphoria and now sobriety.

Sobering hardly describes the primal level at which this film operates. Francoise Lebrun’s performance here is magnetic in a way I’d never like to experience again.…

Something went wrong here.  A brilliant concept and sublime atmosphere amounts to little more than a bad-because-it’s-bad genre pic.  There are so many moments of awesome Wright-isms but then there’s 30 minutes of Mackenzie running from silly CGI ghosts and an utterly pointless twist ending.  Maybe it’s the studio’s fault.
