  The Exorcist 1973

  In a quest to find the “best horror film,”  I was told by multiple people and discovered through research that this was the one, and it surely did not disappoint. While not necessarily scary in a traditional sense (think Nosferatu, The Conjuring) this had my heart pounding. Though we don’t actually see the devil horns and all, knowing he was present and just as dangerous and deceitful without seeing him was perhaps the most terrifying thing of all. Will NEVER mess with a ouji board ever. Also afraid to sleep this evening after hearing the film is cursed. 😅

  I can respect Ana de Armas putting on an incredible performance. Her ability to command the screen is outstanding. The score, use of color, and editing techniques (at times) were beautiful, but didn’t make me feel emotions, just chaos. What I just can’t and will not get behind is a three hour male gaze fest, which either pitted Marilyn as a pawn or a victim with absolutely no middle ground, and for that it was extremely difficult to watch. Maybe that was Dominik’s intent, but she deserves so much better.
