What is up with this genuinely awful animation trend in the recent SpongeBob movies? I absolutely despise how these newer films look. The original SpongeBob movie maintained the cartoon's classic animation style, and nobody complained then—this aesthetic choice soured my experience right from the outset.

I attended the world premiere with both the director and lead actor present. Given that this is Jason Park’s directorial debut, I have to commend him for putting forth a well-crafted, if not entirely original concept—yes, it does feel reminiscent of Whiplash, but set in an operating room. There’s a distinct creative vision on display, and I want to give credit where it’s due.

Overall, though, I’d say the movie lands solidly in “pretty good” territory. Bill Camp stands out…
