  Like any juicy horror franchise, SMILE (2022) was divisive. Some found it chilling, unsettling, and dripping with atmosphere. Others just scoffed, “It’s not scary!” and added nothing else (because they are stupid). Me? I loved it. But even with that fondness for the first film, nothing could have prepared me for how much the sequel ups the ante from its incredible opening sequence to its bonkers ending.

  An interesting concept with a not-so-interesting result. I appreciate the ambition and the message to savor every moment, but the gimmick gets tired quick; making the 1h45m runtime feel like an absolute slog.
