  frank capra really knows what to say to make you feel better!!! so many moments throughout this made me laugh—jean arthur answering the phone with her teeth, jimmy's screaming bit, the ball gown with the 'nuts' sign—and almost as many made me well up. edward arnold does some heavy lifting for the emotional resonance here; the disgrace and self-disappointment he conveys when his son breaks the news near the end is difficult to watch compared to the otherwise light-hearted nature…
