The Summit of the Gods 2021
The first minutes had left me fearing for another blunt and conceptually disengaged experience -- the same lack of awareness that had left me utterly confused in front of Oppenheimer, that version of maximalism which cannot apparently decide how the immense resources it has in disposal will be put on the table to have its watchers engaged in any way.
But can I even call this movie maximalist? The majority of its timespan actually does, to me, excel in capturing…

very impressive and engaging visually, with beautiful symmetric shots and a remarkable work on visual texture, making the most of the limitations of the medium, and the visual settings, each sequence feeling like a cozy silly painting. the battle scenes in this respect are excellently shot. undeniably, Buster Keaton is one hell of a charming performer. his face expresses so much effortlessly, and i love it. but i have to say the plot sucks and i can't ignore the Confederacy idolizing and the misogyny in this movie, just as much as the fact that well, the actual gags and all weren't that funny...
