The American Friend 1977
Wenders hits it out of the park once again. Few films have been able to depict the criminal underworld with such an striking and convincing coating of sleaze, in everything from art fraud to assassinations. The entire Paris metro sequence is superbly tense, aided by the brilliant camera work of frequent Wenders collaborator Robby Müller. Ganz is genuinely beyond belief in this, perhaps one of the greatest performances I've ever seen. Hopper is predicably great as well.
