  I hadn't seen this in 25 years and man I was pleasantly surprised. The visual style of Tarsem is truly unique. You can see that The Fall was already circling his mind while making this.

  Script-wise, well... Story isn't great. You can perceive the notes from the studio, very typical of the year 2000. Still, I enjoyed it a lot. Specially a couple months after discussing this film while having dinner with Tarsem himself.

  While it has some visually great sequences (hence the extra star), the songs are annoying, the script poorly written and the performances are beyond appalling. But more than that, it’s incredible how insulting this film is. 

  I can’t understand how such an insensitive and under-researched caricature of Mexican culture can be praised like this. And what on earth are you praising? Again, the songs are obnoxious, the performances are terrible and the story…. Seems that the director thought that French…
