  Using the modes of Jean-Luc Godard to sculpt a self portrait is ingenious and this would probably be my favorite film of the year if it were long enough to count as a feature.

  Nightcrawler, first time director Dan Gilroy's sleek and glossy noir exploration of a young self starter's foray into the world of freelance news videography, is both shot and set in Andersen's Los Angeles. Having never been to the city myself, I have no idea about the film's faithfulness to city's real world geography but there's no doubt that the City of Angels looks as gorgeous and gritty as it ever has through the eyes of Robert Elswit's nocturnal cinematography.
