The gimmick 100% enhances what in the third act becomes very typical depressing biopic fodder.

Fully thought the scene where he gets kicked out of the band was going to be an intervention. An intervention never comes at any point. His fiance finally leaves him when she finds a press-on in their bed and catches him shooting up, but like, that was the bridge too far?

Great musical set pieces, but I'm still sad far too sad from the last 30ish minutes.

Unlike a lot of religion based films, this one exists in our reality. One where many at church want everything to always be the same and don't actually practice the gospel.
