  I’m ready for Yorgos Lanthimos to be cancelled. This film was a director’s self-indulgent attempt to convey the complexities people will put themselves through to connect with manipulators. Yorgos needs therapy first of all, calling these acts of kindness is hardly a metaphor, teaching, or enlightenment. Yorgos has continuously used sexual violence and aggression for jarring, shock-value scenes to perpetuate his “themes”. The problem is his message has the opposite effect.   this movie, besides its wonderful plot twists and turns of terror, is such a beautiful unfolding of trust & mistrust between strangers. i loved watching the trust build in front of our eyes, the shift from guarded tones of voice to two voices- warm and imprinted on each other. i loved the bursts of altruism from certain characters, in contrast with the deeply vile to moderately vile antagonists. this movie was a love child of hills have eyes, keepers creepers, and 10 cloverfield lane.
