this movie did not deserve to win animated movie of the year over spiderverse. the animation and style of these studio ghibli movies are the only thing that saves them. the story felt very random, like nothing really mattered. i heard a lot of people say that this movie was really good when it first came out, but i didn’t really see the appeal. i was slightly more invested in this than other movies like totoro and howls moving castle though.
