Was expecting this to be much worse based on reviews, but honestly, it wasn’t awful. That said, it’s largely forgettable. The needle drops are bad, the story is incredibly well-trodden, and yet… it’s okay.

Visually, it looks fantastic—the robots are impressively realistic, even if some of them border on insufferable. The nostalgia angle, however, feels off. It’s not as obnoxious as Ready Player One, but for a film set in 1994, it somehow references things that didn’t even exist then.

The politics of this film are as subtle as a sledgehammer, to the extent that a character explicitly states that the humans are actually the aliens invading the planet. An incredible work of cinema made me cry made kme laugh made me fist bump as someone who only watched the original for the first time Sunday this is a film that has all the beats of the original but has more emotional heart.

Tom Cruise could solve the energy crisis with his star power.

The treatment of Iceman sums this film up for me with me crying and smiling simultaneously.

The film looks incredible and it's clear to see the benefit of in camera shots.
