A very challenging movie that could only be handled with the care that a queer filmmaker like Gregg Arakki could manage.
Levitt and Corbett turn out really great performances of young men dealing with the same trauma in very different ways. The final scene of these two together is beautiful and is an image that will stick with me.
I went in thinking this would be another movie in line Andrew Haigh's previous projects Weekend and Looking, which tell intimate stories between queer men.
That exists here, masterfully acted by Andrew Scott and Paul Mescal, but there is an added layer of the fantastical that makes this gay story even more poignant.
As a gay man I often fantasize about having an honest conversation about what being gay is like with family members. Haigh takes this premise and really cuts to my truth as a gay writer.
