I think the most compelling part of this is the use of horror cliche and tropes. Some are subverted as per modern horror, and some are just played straight. The atmosphere is palpable, the tone is creepy, the film is altogether unnerving. I think there could have been more to it and just more going on in general. I liked the central concept but I feel that there is just enough missing to be unsatisfying and ultimately I think the…

Lapsis 2020
Really don't get the charity in scoring on this one, it has a really high average on here but it's not even close. I was slightly amused by the new workers watching a shitty training vhs tape in a dystopian future, like of course they still have that lol, nice detail. The acting was good, the story was acceptable and the ending was non existent, in fact I literally thought there was another 20 minutes left and then credits. The…

What You Wish For 2023
This film had promise but the stilted dialogue and wonky atmosphere do nothing good for the movie. Nick Stahl is great but everyone around him sucks the energy out of the scene. Very subdued and well written but poorly executed (pun intended). Enjoyable enough and worth a half paying attention watch while you do chores or whatnot.

Rebel Ridge 2024
Exceptionally good and reminds me of Blue Ruin quite a bit. Tone is consistent, cold, calculated. It's a tad overlong and runs out of steam eventually. Doesn't really disappoint as the consistency keeps you enthralled despite forgone conclusions. I feel weird saying that it could have been more visceral but as others have pointed out, the reverse is quite interesting to see as a change of pace. I think if the script was tightened up and the catharsis a bit more extreme this would have made for a better picture, but as it stands, still a worthwhile ride and a damn fine piece of filmmaking.
