I want to love this - love the lens of women not being believed as a key feature of the storytelling, parallels of the misogynistic microaggressions Sheryl experiences in Hollywood with the horrific violent misogyny interspliced…and this was a true story that really deserved to be told.
But the execution was so cheesy! The writing was so cheesy. So many cliches, everything just felt way too lighthearted for the subject matter. Not what it could have been.
A refreshingly soft, raw, unromanticised and well-informed look at sex work. Brutally unflinching, but warm and affectionate towards sex workers which I’ve never seen done so well in a piece of fiction. We really went on the emotional rollercoaster right alongside Ani. My heart ached for her.

Every frame of this movie is a work of art. And the light!! And the sound, right from the beginning! The explosions - I’ve never given a shit about explosions in any movie but the explosions in this one are BEAUTIFUL. I have a PhD thesis somewhere in my brain about light in this movie, I’m just not going to write it. And the harkonnen! And their planet!!!! Immaculate, perfect, visually breathtaking
