Low-key MVP: Gustavo Santaolalla‘s simple but gorgeous string-laden score.

Definitely not MVP: Anne Hathaway’s wig.

“As soon as the world comes to its senses, I’m going to travel.”

For those not in power, the world never stops shrinking. A vastly underrated film.

Strong candidate for best-looking dumb dad movie ever made. The opening sequence is one of the most comically overwrought things I’ve ever seen, like something straight out of SNL. Donald Sutherland hilariously chews the scenery as the pyromaniac version of Hannibal Lecter. Every time William Baldwin is on screen I couldn’t help but hear his character from the fake police procedural in Forgetting Sarah Marshall, “Can someone say… dicksicle?” The on-location shooting in Chicago is gorgeous and the 4K looks absolutely spectacular.

Fantastic cast all around (how did this not catapult Cynda Williams to more roles?), but a crushing Bill Paxton performance is what will stay with me - alternating between endearing, predatory, foolhardy, overbearing, wistful, casually racist, then heartbreaking without ever missing a note. And that ending.
