what a fun and vaguely threatening watch. i feel mildly infantilized by how big and bold the subtext is, but i feel equally uncomfortable at how big and bold the grotesque gore and unflinching mutation is. everything is under a magnifying glass, every wrinkle, every chicken drumstick in the ass. sue’s life is louder, brighter, faster, sexier. elizabeth’s life is reserved, hushed, dull, unending. there can be no balance.
anti-aging regimes beyond this movie are far less openly disturbing, but…

the band tshirt would’ve been my last straw
there’s nothing like a found family roadtrip that ends in bittersweet betrayal and reconciliation to make you cradle your younger self. i tried watching this a while back and turned it off pretty early in because i couldn’t focus, but now that I’m older, sitting with my boyfriend who adores it, there’s something very comforting and alluring about it.
a movie that makes you want to get in the car, turn the keys, and ride the gas meter all the way down.
