I have no idea what I just watched. I love it.

Watched this film in preparation for Hundreds of Beavers. It’s just a glorified compilation of old animated shorts. What’s more interesting is tracking the development of the animation medium—how it went from ‘chalk talks’ to a distinct art form. Overall, you might be able to get the same gist from watching each short separately.

    Gladiator II

    ★★★½

This movie is extremely abrupt, with many events and characters changing on a dime. Lots of scenes rehashed from the original film (and the plot is somewhat similar in the first half), but Denzel makes this movie a bit more entertaining. That being said, there was no true ‘bad guy’ like Joaquin Phoenix in the original. The twin emperors ended up being extremely goofy and while I felt like I was supposed to hate Denzel’s character, I just didn’t feel that way.

    The Game

    ★★★★½

This is a really twisted movie. But what I like about it is it manages to fit so many different topics in its 130 minute runtime. Escaping the past. Wealth and entitlement. Trust.

The general arc, in some ways, is very similar to It’s a Wonderful Life. Both protagonists must lose everything in order to change, and nothing less. The Game is much more cerebral, though. Much better than I remembered.
