There’s been SO MUCH written and said about this movie that I’m not going to really be able to add much to the discussion here. I’m giving it slightly higher rating as my gore-hound self has some appreciation for Alexandre Aja’s ability to put together a nasty little scene, but I can’t review this movie to any better than Aaron Rogers @arboghast1960 did many Hooptobers ago, so please just go read that. It says everything anyone needs to.

I owe this movie an apology for saying this wasn’t as much a horror film when I put this list together. This movie is DARK. The movie starts us off in the apocalyptic future of 1999, where humans have no memories of any kind and rove as wild beasts in a destroyed San Francisco. Ok, confession time. I love anthologies, Italian horror, Mario Bava in particular, Boris Karloff, and even the band for which this movie was their namesake. I have never seen Black Sabbath until now. I don’t know why, it’s just one of those things that just kept getting moved to the “maybe later” list. I’m glad to have finally remedied that oversight.

I know I definitely watched this movie before back in the days when I worked at Hollywood Video. I am still marking this as a first time watch though because I apparently remembered NONE of this and it is nothing like what I had in mind. This movie is absolutely bonkers, opening at a 10 on the 80s nuts-o-meter and just keeps going. The puppet work is great, hitting just the right notes of gross and cheesy.…
