I understand that the two are very different movies, but I didn't find this nearly as engaging as JFK. It's a weirdly sympathetic view of Nixon, and one that glosses over some major things that work against that. Hopkins doesn't really look much like Nixon, but he does a great job of evoking him in his mannerisms and voice. I can appreciate a movie that wants to go deeper than what the public sees - here the self-loathing and self-pity, and the paranoia, but also moments of kindness and humour. But in the end, Nixon feels overlong and jumbled.

'71 2014
Damn, really loved this. I've had it on my watchlist for years and just finally got around to it. '71 is incredibly tense; I was glued to it the whole time. Jack O'Connell does a great job here, and the rest of the cast is pretty stacked with 'wait, where do I know him from?' actors. My only sort of-complaint is that the end plays out a little too obviously and awkwardly - the succession of events and timings feel a little too forced. Otherwise I thought this was fantastic. I wanted to watch it again right after finishing it.

Syriana 2005
I don't think I'm smart enough for Syriana 😭. There's too much going on, and jumping back and forth between multiple stories proved to be too confusing. I mostly understand how it all comes together in the end, but I kept having to check the plot description on Wikipedia while I was watching lol. But I did enjoy it to a certain extent regardless, and I was pretty impressed with George Clooney. I'll have to give this another go one day.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire 2005
This was awful. The only redeeming thing about it was the end part in the graveyard.
