Interesting story, some very gripping scenes with fantastic acting, but ending was weird.
A marvelous depiction of the frailty of the human heart and the fragility of goodness in the face of aloneness & rejection. And shows how are apart attachment is to love! It’s as if the author read Earnest Becker’s “The Denial of Death” and put its premise, the universal need to be special, on cinematic display. Great acting.
Well done flick with fairly decent character and relationship development, way more than other cop chasing criminal stories. However, the women are portrayed as quite weak and needy, poor victims to men who put them in second place over their ‘jobs.’ Even the suicidally depressed girl is hungry for the absent daddy. The way the guys were crushing on each other in the restaurant scene was subtlety narcissistic— each impressed by and admiring their own driven selves in the other. Sad commentary on typical, broken humans in desperate need of God’s mercy.
Lewd and crude and brutal bloodshed flying everywhere. Typical Martin Scorsese. It’s probably a good thing that Martin is expressing his sadistic impulses through film rather than in real life. I had to fast forward the horrific violence to enjoy the intriguing plot, suspense and very good acting. It’s a sad that our young Sullivan got lured away from the Church since the moral of the story is: there’s a high price for low living. It’s best to keep the 10 Commandments after all!
