I was honestly expecting to LOVE this movie, and I’m really sad I didn’t. I don’t think this is Bong Ju’s best work. I’ll start by saying that, man, is this an incredibly topical movie considering it was 5 years in production. I think it’s beautiful to look at, and overall, a very character driven plot, obviously. Robert has proven time and time again he’s capable of being a leading man. I don’t think I was disappointed by any performances.…

I get it. It’s an allegory for depression. The sad fact is though, that watching an accurate depiction of depression is actually kind of boring. The fact that I don’t like this movie is on me. Practically speaking, it’s well made, and well performed (Kirsten is such an overlooked actress!) However, there is a suffocating air of pretension. Maybe it was the 5 minute intro scene, not sure.
