I wrote something long, acknowledging how stupid a lot of this movie is, and then realized that I’m just trying to justify why I enjoy it. It comes down to 3 things: 1) I love Kurt Russell, 2) I love John Carpenter, and 3) this movie requires zero emotional or mental investment for me. It allows me to turn off my brain and have fun.

My Dinner with Andre 1981
There some really profound moments in this. This is not a film everyone is ready for. I feel like it finds you exactly when you need it. I’ve tried watching it several times, but I always became distracted or busy, I wasn’t ready. I finally had the time and attention to sit down with it, and I found that it ultimately confirmed most of what I’ve been learning in my own experience lately.

An American Werewolf in London 1981
This is about as perfect of a werewolf movie as we’ve gotten of likely will anytime soon. It’s always one of the first horror movies I recommend to someone. The transformation scene is something I’ll never forget, even if its dated.

I walked into this movie with a couple cops outside the theater and came out to two hasseling a man for carrying a book, two staring down all the moviegoers, and multiples of cars patrolling the parking lot. Seeing that after I came out of the movie made an already heavy experience completely surreal.
