  Escape from New York 1981

  Brilliant scene and costume design, interesting plot, but the main character is absolutely bland and uninteresting. Partly a side effect of Snake Plissken being drenched in 80s badassery but also because the viewer doesn't know enough about him to get a minimal understanding of why he's such an asshole. The other characters are cool though, however they gain and lose plot armour when it's handy. This movie brought us the absolute gem of Gothic (2001) so I can't complain.
